HOLY GOSPEL OF JESUS CHRIST ACCORDING TO SAINT LUKE When the days were completed for their purification according to the law of Moses, Mary and Joseph took Jesus up to Jerusalem to present him to the Lord, just as it is written in the law of the Lord, "Every male that opens the womb shall be consecrated to the Lord," and to offer the sacrifice of "a pair of turtledoves or two young pigeons," in accordance with the dictate in the law of the Lord. Now there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon. This man was righteous and devout, awaiting the consolation of Israel, and the holy Spirit was upon him. It had been revealed to him by the holy Spirit that he should not see death before he had seen the Messiah of the Lord. He came in the Spirit into the temple; and when the parents brought in the child Jesus to perform the custom of the law in regard to him, he took him into his arms and blessed God, saying: Now, Master, you may let your servant go in peace, according to your word, for my eyes have seen your salvation, which you prepared in sight of all the peoples, a light for revelation to the Gentiles, and glory for your people Israel." The child's father and mother were amazed at what was said about him; and Simeon blessed them and said to Mary his mother, "Behold, this child is destined for the fall and rise of many in Israel, and to be a sign that will be contradicted (and you yourself a sword will pierce) so that the thoughts of many hearts may be revealed." CEBUANO TRANSLATION ANG PAGBASA GIKAN SA EBANGHELYO SUMALA NI SAN LUCAS Miabot ang panahon nga si Jose ug si Maria magtuman sa seremonyas sa paghinlo sumala sa gisugo sa Balaod ni Moises. Busa gidala nila ang bata ngadto sa Jerusalem aron ihalad nila sa Ginoo. Mao kini ang nasulat sa Balaod sa Ginoo: “Ang tanang panganay’ng lalaki kinahanglang ihalad ngadto sa Ginoo.” Miadto usab sila aron paghalad sumala sa gisugo sa Balaod sa Ginoo: usa ka paris nga tukmo ug duha ka kuyabog nga salampati. Niining panahona may tawo nga nagpuyo sa Jerusalem nga ginganlag Simeon. Maayo siyang tawo ug mahadlokon sa Dios, ug nagpaabot sa kaluwasan sa Israel. Nag-uban kaniya ang Espiritu Santo, ug gipasaligan siya sa Espiritu Santo nga dili siya mamatay hangtod makita niya ang Mesiyas nga gisaad sa Ginoo. Minandoan sa Espiritu, misulod si Simeon sa Templo. Sa gidala na si Jesus sa iyang mga ginikanan ngadto sa Templo aron didto ilang himoon kaniya ang gisugo sa Balaod, gikugos ni Simeon ang Bata ug nagpasalamat siya sa Dios: “Karon,Ginoo, kay imo na mang gituman ang imong saad, itugot na ang imong sulugoon mohalin na nga malinawon. Kay sa kaugalingon kong mga mata nakita ko ang imong kaluwasan, nga imong giandam atubangan sa tanang katawhan: Usa ka kahayag nga magpadayag sa imong dalan ngadto sa mga dili Judio, ug maghatag sa imong himaya ngadto sa imong katawhan, ang Israel.” Nahibulong ang amahan ug ang inahan sa bata sa pagkadungog nila sa mga butang nga gisulti ni Simeon bahin kaniya. Unya nanaIangin si Simeon kanila ug miingon kang Maria nga inahan sa Bata, “Kining Bataa gipili sa Dios alang sa kalaglagan ug kaluwasan sa daghang mga tawo sa Israel; mahimo siyang ilhanan gikan sa Dios nga supakon sa daghang mga tawo, ug tungod niini madayag ang ilang mga tinagoang hunahuna.
