Hindu Groups Raise 4 Demands As Row Erupts Over Jamia Mosque In Karnataka's Mandya

A mandir-masjid debate is raging in Karnataka. Several Hindu groups, including the Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP), have claimed that Jamia Masjid in Mandya district was built after razing an ancient Hanuman temple. The groups have now raised four demands. These include: An FIR should be lodged against those who are destroying Hindu symbols inside the masjid Madrassa and cooking should be prohibited within the Jamia Masjid A video survey should be conducted inside the mosque by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) Hindus should be allowed to offer prayers inside the monument Over 100 VHP and Bajrang Dal workers, who attempted to march towards Jamia Masjid on Saturday, were detained by police as prohibitory orders were in place in Srirangapatna, the erstwhile capital of 18th century ruler Tipu Sultan. Built by Tipu Sultan in 1786-87, Jamia mosque is also called Masjid-i-Ala and is located inside the Srirangapatna fort. These groups were behind the 'Srirangapatna Chalo' programme, calling for devotees to perform 'pooja' inside the mosque if their demands were not met. Reacting to the events, Sri Ram Sena chief Pramod Muthalik said, "It is not right to stop the protesters. You are supposed to stop those who have encroached on the place and are using it as a madrassa and are performing namaaz inside the monument." #JamiaMasjid #MandyaMandirClaim #KarnatakaNews #IndiaToday Subscribe to India Today for NEW VIDEOS EVERY DAY and make sure to enable Push Notifications so you'll never miss a new video.
