This December (Holiday Version) - Ricky Montgomery (Drum Cover by Jack Bruce)

“This December” (Holiday Version) is a drumming/editing experience that I’ll carry with me throughout my entire social media career!🔥🥁 Ever since Ricky Montgomery released the song exactly 1 year and 1 day before this video’s premiere, I absolutely fell in love with the new holiday twist!🎄 With a music career as unique as his, it only made sense that he would eventually add onto or change the original version of “This December” with his new musical perspective after 7 years have passed. In my opinion, the holiday rendition almost seems like the definitive version of the song, adding layers of horns, bells, and other festive sounds to really make the “December” part of the title hold more weight. When I first listened to the song on releae day, ideas of creating a drum cover for this deep track seemed ambitious, but not completely out of the question.🤔 While walking around my college campus in the cold and listening to”This December” (Holiday Version) all day long on its release day, tons of video ideas came to me!🥁 Decorating the drum kit was an absolute must, and so was including other background holiday decor. Additionally, I knew that my outfit (as always) had to match the feel of the song, so some kind of holiday sweater also needed to be included.🧣 Since I would be using holiday decorations that would be put up in my house already, I figured that the easiest way to film the video would be in later months in the next year. Furthermore, as much as I wanted to record a drum cover of Rricky’s new song as soon as possible, I knew that releasing it any time past December would not feel right, and that I should learn/play the drum part the best I could. For those reasons, I decided to wait until July 2024 to film the holiday version and instead film “Worth It” (From Beabadoobee) instead in January of 2024.☃️ Despite being 1 year away from the release date of this video, I knew exactly what I wanted to do with this song and how I wanted to execute it!🥁 When it came to the day of filming in July of this year, pressure was at an all-time high. Finding a day and time where my dad’s, my brother’s, and my schedule all had free time was quite difficult. What made the recording process even more intense was our limited time frame. During the day of shooting, my father and I planned to attend a concert where I would then go back home and pack my bags for a vacation in another state the next day. After only a few tries, however, we completed a demo, and the project was never touched until the end of October 2024.🫢 ---------------------------------------- As I write the description for the video right now, one day before it releases, I don’t have any regret for the amount of thought, time, and effort put into the project!💯 I have always been a drummer with a passion for deep tracks of my favorite artists, and this project is the greatest example of that idea! In December of 2023, I had a vision to create an immersive and high-quality drum cover of one of my favorite songs from my favorite artist. Being able to take those 1-year old ideas from my head and eventually put them into reality is absolutely mind-blowing.🤯 A video like this would not be possible with just me behind the production process. Not even close. As always, none of this (and I MEAN NONE OF THIS) would at all be possible without the meaningful efforts of my father and my brother Simon.🔥 Both of these guys have been with me and my YouTube career from the start, and I can’t believe it’s almost been three years since our first project together! Even though their efforts go slightly under the radar with each video that I release, I decided to credit them front and center for the first time with this project.👌 And as always… you guys!🥳 Once again, a video is released, and once again, I have the most amazing audience that watches it!💙 This project has seen some tremendous support since the initial teasers, and I now hope that it lives up to its expectations!💯 Out of all of the videos that I have published thus far, the production of “This December” (Holiday Version) has included the most involvement by me in the creative and technical process.
