As the disciples bickered and rejected his warnings, they were blind to their own arrogance. Yet, even in their failures, God’s plan unfolded. Jesus, the innocent Son of God, was numbered among the transgressors—he stood in our place. He overcame the evil that seeks to destroy us, embracing it to bring us victory through his death and resurrection. As we recognize our own pride and sin, we are called to humble ourselves, turning away from arrogance, and pointing ourselves back to the one who is truly great—Jesus, who was numbered with us so that we might be counted among the redeemed.
