The faith of Buddhists is not blind faith :: Ajahn Prasan bhuddhakulsomsiri - 26 Oct. 2025 (A)
"Buddhist faith is not blind faith." The word "faith" means belief based on reason. Therefore, to have Buddhist faith, we must learn and listen. At first, we don't yet have true faith. It's faith that is based on believing with all our hearts because we haven't yet seen the real thing. Teachers, monks, or assistants who come to speak try to show us the real thing. We find that when we see the real thing, we don't need to believe. We don't need to believe with all our hearts because we already see it this way. Only when we truly see and understand will our faith be full. This kind of faith is called meritorious. "Mercy" means wisdom. Buddhist faith is purely about intelligence. It's not about blind faith or believing in others. Therefore, "faith" and "superstition" are not the same.
