Shark Sightings Close Beaches to Swimmers

ORANGE BEACH, Ala. (WPMI) If you are heading to the beach Sunday, swim with extra caution. Beach officials have posted Double Red Flags at Alabama Point and the Shell parking lot to the east of Alabama Point due to the large number of sharks in the area thus closing off those waters to swimmers. In a beach report sent to Local 15, Aquatics and Beach Safety Director Melvin Shepard stated "Hopefully once people stop throwing their fish carcasses into the water they [sharks] may not be swimming in such numbers that close to the beach." Yellow flags are flying at the other area beaches along Orange Beach. For your safety you are advised to swim with extra caution and stay out of the water if you are not a strong swimmer. Officials are asking people to remember that water conditions can change quickly, so always check conditions before entering the Gulf.
