Sunday, November 14, 2021—Twenty-fifth Sunday after Pentecost
(Sister Parish Sunday, Transgender Day of Remembrance) This Sunday, we encounter a familiar story. It’s the story of the Good Samaritan as told in Luke’s gospel. It’s a story we have used to paint a picture of what it means to be a good neighbor. It’s a story where we immediately want to identify with the hero in the story whenever we hear it—the Samaritan. It’s a story that is told as a moralistic tale and that the takeaway is to “do better.” Well, you know what I am about to say… I wonder. What if that isn’t the point of this familiar story. What if Jesus was trying to make a different point—something more scandalous and downright difficult, and our reductionist way of thinking has glossed over the real meaning behind the story of the Good Samaritan. Join us this Sunday. When you do, don’t bring your certainty; bring your wonder. Rev. Eric Sherlock preaching from Luke 10:25-37 Music by John Kendall Bailey
