Poison Zombies resemble Zombies with dark purple skin tone, glowing eyes, and clouds of noxious gas that they exude. Their appearance is randomized as per normal Zombies. In an effort to suppress the outbreak Umbrella provided the police with "P-Z gas." However instead of destroying the mutants it caused many of them to mutate further into deadlier variants with toxic bites and the ability to disperse poison gas upon death. This is presumably intentional (especially since "P-Z" possibly stands for "Poison Zombie") as part of Umbrella's effort to undermine police efforts and to eliminate any potential witnesses.
