Body Recomposition: Can Trained Individuals Build Muscle and Lose Fat at the Same Time?
On this episode of "Fitness Facts," University of Kansas Ph.D. student Jeremy Pearson and I discuss whether or not trained individuals can build muscle and lose fat at the same time. This process is commonly referred to as “body recomposition.” Jeremy is a third year Ph.D. student at the University of Kansas studying muscle stem cell activity in response to exercise. He is currently a trainee in the Gallagher Applied Physiology Lab and Rosa-Molinar Microscopy & Analytical Imaging Research Resource Core Laboratory. Jeremy has published multiple peer-reviewed research articles examining how to build muscle and lose body fat simultaneously via exercise and nutritional strategies. In addition, he has been a competitive bodybuilder for over a decade. If you do not have the time or attention span to watch the entire video, I highly recommend skipping to the 1:17:34 timepoint. At this timepoint, practical recommendations are provided for those individuals who are seeking to build muscle and lose fat simultaneously.
