Three arrested outside White House after hanging "End Fossil Fuels" banner on fence, again
Parks Police arrested three climate activists Tuesday afternoon hanging a banner demanding President Biden "Declare Climate Emergency, End Fossil Fuels" on the White House fence. This comes after four similar protests last week, and 100+ arrested in NYC on Monday. "I'm here because we need President Biden to declare a climate emergency for the future of our planet," said one of the arrestees before being taken away. "We need to act now!" "I'm here to fight for all the people who they say are nobody, but they're real people who are dying because of fossil fuels!" said another. "We cannot let our loved ones die any longer!" The protest began with activists hanging a banner on the White House fence, which an officer warned them against. "I'm doing this because I've seen so many people who I love treated as if they don't matter," one participant told News2Share as ve participated in hanging the banner. "And so, we want to speak to President Biden to act with urgency, declare a climate emergency!" The group then broke into chants of "act with urgency, declare a climate emergency!" "We're basically gonna have a couple officers come up, we're gonna have supervision come up, we're gonna give a couple warnings to clear out. If they don't they're coming with us," a Parks Police officer said as the protest was ongoing, before the arrests.
