This special day commemorates the dedication of two of Rome's four major basilicas, Saint Peter's Basilica and Saint Paul Outside the Walls, built over the graves of these two apostles . The Basilicas' Rich History Saint Peter's Basilica, located on Vatican Hill, was originally constructed by Emperor Constantine in 323 and stood for over a thousand years. After structural concerns, Pope Julius II ordered its reconstruction, which took over 200 years to complete, and it was dedicated on November 18, 1626. Saint Paul Outside the Walls, built over Saint Paul's tomb, was also originally constructed by Emperor Constantine. Unfortunately, it was destroyed by fire in 1823, but donations from around the world made its reconstruction possible, and it was consecrated by Pope Pius IX in 1854. -These basilicas are more than just buildings; they represent the foundation of the Church, with Saints Peter and Paul as its pillars. Saint Peter, the first pope, and Saint Paul, the great evangelist, are celebrated for their unwavering faith and tireless efforts to spread the Gospel - Don't MISS our daily Mass Livestream 7am (EAT).
