The New York Daily News reports that NYPD officers responding to reports of a man with a gun in the area approached a group near East 102nd street and Franklin D. Roosevelt Drive Tuesday night. A chase ensued, with one suspect on a bike as 33-year-old officer Randolph Holden, a Guyanese immigrant, went after him on foot for 20 blocks along FDR drive, from East 102nd to 120th street. On East 120th, an exchange of gunfire likely resulted in the suspect taking a shot to the leg. The officer was shot in the forehead and taken to Harlem Hospital Center, where he later died, according to the New York Times. Police searched the area and found the wounded suspect near East 125th street with his gun and bicycle. He was taken into police custody and is currently at the New York Hospital-Cornell Medical Center. Authorities closed down both sides of FDR Drive between East 120th and 125th streets as they investigated the incident, backing up traffic significantly, reports CBS. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- Next Media Animation’s News Direct service provides daily, high-quality, informative 3D animated news graphics that fill in for missing footage and help viewers understand breaking news stories or in-depth features on science, technology, and health.
