Sunday after Holy Cross: Greek Orthodox Divine Liturgy of Saint John Chrysostom: 09/17/2023
LIVE High Definition (HD) broadcast of the Greek Orthodox Matins (Orthros/Morning Prayers) and Divine Liturgy of Saint John Chrysostom commemorating the Sunday after Holy Cross. The Greek Orthodox Church commemorates the Sunday after Holy Cross on September 17th to honor the precious and life-giving Cross of Jesus Christ. The Cross is a reminder that salvation comes through suffering and sacrifice, and it encourages the faithful to persevere in their spiritual journey despite the challenges they may face. It's also another opportunity for Orthodox Christians to renew their faith in Jesus Christ and recommit to living a life of love, compassion, and service to others. The Greek Orthodox Church also celebrates the Sunday after Holy Cross as a commemoration of the discovery of the True Cross by Saint Helen, the mother of Emperor Constantine. According to tradition, Saint Helen traveled to Jerusalem in search of the True Cross, which was believed to have been used in the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. After an extensive search, she discovered three crosses buried beneath a temple. To determine which cross was the True Cross, Saint Helen ordered that a sick woman be brought to each cross. When the woman was brought to the first two crosses, nothing happened. But when she was brought to the third cross, the woman was miraculously healed, indicating that this was indeed the True Cross. The discovery of the True Cross is considered a significant event in Christian history.
