Jazz Guitar Lesson - Drop System: Harmonised Major Scale, Drop 2, 1st Inversion

One of the topics which I get asked about the most from my students is Chord Melody/Solo Guitar playing, so I decided to put together this series of video lessons on the ‘Drop’ chord system. This system is a great starting point to develop our chord vocabulary and harmonic understanding, providing us with a method we can use to play almost any Chord Melody! Harmonised Major Scale, Drop 2, 1st Inversion 📌In ’1st Inversions’ the lowest voice (Bass) is the 3rd of the chord, not the root. In ‘Drop 2’ 1st Inversion the intervallic shape is: 3-7-R-5 📌‘Drop 2s’ 1st Inversion give us the 5th of the chord on top 📌These voicings give us some nice crunchy clusters (semitone, or tone intervals) in the middle of the voicing, providing a different colour than other shapes 📌Try now playing all chords you know in ‘Drop 2’ Root Position, then 1st Inversion. Notice how each voice just moves to the next note of the chord 📌Join our thriving #jazzguitarhub community if you enjoy #guitarlessons like this bit.ly/jazzguithub 🎸🎶❤️ #guitarists #musiclessons #jazzguitar #jazzguitarlesson #jazzguitarchords #jazz #guitarlesson
