Proclamation of the Gospel of Jesus Christ according to Matthew 22:1-14 At that time, 1 Jesus spoke again in parables to the chief priests and the elders of the people, 2 saying: "The kingdom of heaven is like the story of a king who prepared a wedding banquet for his son. 3 And he sent his servants to call those who were invited to the banquet, but they refused to come. 4 The king sent other servants, saying, 'Tell those who were invited: I have prepared the banquet; the oxen and the fattened cattle have been slaughtered and everything is ready. Come to the banquet!' 5 But the guests paid no attention. One went to his field, another to his business, 6 others seized his servants, beat them, and killed them. 7 The king was furious and sent his troops to kill those murderers and burn down their city. 8 Then the king said to his servants, 'The wedding feast is ready, but those invited were not worthy. 9 Therefore go out to the main roads and invite to the feast anyone you find.' 10 Then the servants went out into the roads and gathered together everyone they found, both bad and good. And the wedding hall was filled with guests. 11 When the king came in to see the guests, he noticed a man there who was not wearing wedding clothes, 12 and asked him, 'Friend, how did you get in here without wedding clothes?' But the man answered nothing. 13 Then the king said to the attendants, 'Tie this man hand and foot, and throw him outside, into the darkness! There will be weeping and gnashing of teeth.' 14 For many are called, but few are chosen. Word of Salvation.
