Christmas Day Mass 2024 - Vatican

Attending the Christmas Day Mass and the Papal Blessing at St. Peter's Basilica was a profoundly moving experience, immersing us in the rich traditions of the Catholic Church. The tradition of celebrating Christmas Mass at the Vatican dates back to at least the 4th century, following the legalization of Christianity by Emperor Constantine in 313 AD. By the 12th century, the practice of Midnight Mass had become more widespread, with priests granted the faculty to celebrate three Masses on Christmas Day—at midnight, dawn, and during the day. Papal Blessing: The tradition of the Urbi et Orbi ("to the city and the world") blessing has deep historical roots. The phrase "Urbi et Orbi" dates back to ancient Rome, traditionally used in proclamations. The papal blessing associated with this phrase developed during the Middle Ages, becoming a formalized practice by the 13th century under Pope Gregory X. Eventhough were not Catholics, being part of this tradition that goes back to almost 2,000 years, surrounded by the grandeur of St. Peter's Basilica was truly an extraordinary experience for us. Truly unforgettable!!! I think just to experience this makes this whole trip well worth it. 😊❤️✨🙏🎄🎉 Song: Dear God Written and Sung by: Midge Ure
