My name is Mr Pea y juntos vamos a aprender a hablar en inglés. Hoy vamos a trabajar con el third conditional. ¿Estáis preparadas y preparados? Here we go! El third conditional se emplea para reflexionar sobre situaciones pasadas que nunca sucedieron y especular acerca de sus posibles consecuencias. Dicho de otra manera. Con el third conditional hablamos de cosas de las que nos arrepentimos de no haber hecho o nos lamentamos de no haberlas hecho de otra manera. Veamos un par de ejemplos que te ayudarán a comprenderlo mejor: If she had studied harder, she would have passed the exam. Si ella hubiera estudiado más, habría aprobado el examen. If she had won the lottery, she would have quit her job. Si ella hubiera ganado la lotería, habría dejado su trabajo. Al igual que pasa con los otros condicionales, la estructura del third conditional se basa en dos cláusulas: ·Cláusula de condición: Que tiene la siguiente estructura: If + sujeto + Verbo (past perfect), ·Clausula de consecuencia: Que tiene la siguiente estructura: Sujeto + would + have + Verbo (participle) Por ejemplo: If I had known it was going to rain, I would have brought my umbrella. Si hubiera sabido que iba a llover, habría traído mi paraguas. Como ves, para formar el third conditional es importante que repases cómo formar el past perfect. Vamos a repasar la estructura de esta forma verbal para que te ayude a formar el third conditional: Sujeto + had + Verbo (participio) Vamos a repasar lo que hemos aprendido. Te pondré frases en castellano que usan el tercer condicional y tú me tendrás que decir cuál es la traducción correcta al inglés de las tres que te propongo. Vamos allá: 1. Si hubieran llegado más temprano, habrían tomado el tren a) If they arrive earlier, they would have caught the train. b) If they had arrived earlier, they would have caught the train c) If they have arrived earlier, they would have caught the train Y la respuesta correcta es... la b) If they had arrived earlier, they would have caught the train 2. Si me hubieras dicho la verdad, no habría estado tan enfadado. a) If you had told me the truth, I wouldn't have been so angry. b) If you had told me the truth, I wouldn't had been so angry. c) If you have told me the truth, I wouldn't have been so angry. Y la respuesta correcta es... la a) If you had told me the truth, I wouldn't have been so angry. 3. Si hubiera hecho mejor tiempo, habríamos ido a la playa. a) If the weather had been nicer, we would have gone to the beach. b) If the weather have been nicer, we would have gone to the beach. c) If the weather had been nicer, we would have went to the beach.
