German Parliament Commemorates Holocaust Victims on 80th Anniversary of Auschwitz Liberation |

German parliament held a solemn hour of commemoration for the victims of the Holocaust, two days after the 80th anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz concentration camp. In a moving speech, German President Frank-Walter Steinmeier reminded the audience, including German Chancellor Olaf Scholz and Holocaust survivors, that the Shoah is an integral part of German history. He emphasized that remembrance of the atrocities is an ongoing responsibility, stating, “Whether we like it or not, it is part of our identity. There is no end to remembrance and therefore no end to our responsibility.” Steinmeier also warned of the dangers of forgetting the Holocaust, asserting that democracy is the antidote to racial mania and nationalism. Germany has seen a rise in antisemitic crimes in recent years, and with far-right party Alternative for Germany gaining traction in the polls, the country faces increasing challenges to combat extremism. #HolocaustRemembrance #AuschwitzLiberation #Steinmeier #Germany #Antisemitism #FarRight #JewishHistory #GermanParliament #NeverForget #Shoah Stay updated with the latest breaking news and insightful analysis by subscribing to India Today Global.
