Jaws the Revenge (1987): Filming the Ending
In the summer of 1987, the filmmakers responsible for "Jaws 4" promised an epic shark/boat collision scene. While it does happen in the finished product, it was an unsurprising giant letdown. In this clip from the "Making of" special which aired on U.S. TV to promote the film, we are treated to how the big climax was filmed. We are also treated to footage that didn't make it in the final cut, showing Ellen, Michael, and Hoagie being thrown overboard, as well as Ellen in the water. Some of this footage showed up in the "International cut" of the film. We also see Lorraine Gary and Michael Caine swimming in the Universal studio tank with pieces of the broken boat surrounding them. In the final shooting script, Ellen sobs for her decased son Sean as she clings onto a piece of the broken boat. The footage in the special seems to indicate that the scene was shot. In the version initially released to theaters, the scene ends immediately after the shark is killed.
