HAST MUDRA THERAPY Indian saint and sages (Rishis and Munis) were great ancient scientists who have written Shastras (holy books) and philosophical books based on their own experience. These books on Yoga, Ayurveda, Astrology, Vastu, etc. contain gems for betterment of human life. Here, we would try to understand one of such sciences i.e. HAST MUDRA. Human body is a miraculous creation of nature. Human being can remain healthy physically and mentally by practising yoga and progress spiritually. Various poses, mudras of body and hand is included in yoga. Mudra therapy is a purely scientific and wonderful way to attain physical health and mental peace in life easily. There are various mudras. They are used while praying Gods & Goddesses, Mantra-Tantra, ritual ceremony, music, dance and study of yoga. Mudras are useful to get rid of various diseases or ailments and develop physical, mental strength. A common man can lead healthy life, keeping away the diseases by using Mudras properly. As in body, so in universe' according Shastras. Human body consists of the same five elements that form the universe. All the five fingers of hand represent five elements. Human body remains healthy if these five elements are balanced. Increase or decrease or imbalance of any element may result into the disease related to that particular element. Hast Mudra balances the five elements and thereby curing the diseases. Micro energy waves (Prana energy, Aura, Prana Shakti, Life force) flow from the tips of the fingers continuously. By practising Hast Mudra life force is controlled and flows properly. According to the science of Hast Mudra various parts of body like muscle, endocrine glands, inner-outer organs and their systems, nervous system can be regularised by balancing the five elements. It can awaken latent vital force. In short "Mudras are like switch of power center to control astral body. Yoga Sadhana stresses on practising 'Ashtanga Yoga'. Mudras also are of great importance in yoga. Asanas stress more on senses than on Prana (vital force). On the other hand Mudras put emphasis on Prana to senses. One can immediately notice the effect after practising Mudras. Mudras must be performed with both the hands so that both - right and left parts of the body get benefitted. It can be performed empty stomach or after two hours of taking dinner. It can be performed in any position - sitting, standing or walking. To get better result they can be performed while practising Vajrasana, Padmasana or Sukhasana. Any Mudra can be performed from 10 minutes to 45 minutes to get full benefit. One can perform it in more than one sitting. One can practise it for 15 minutes thrice a day. Note : 1. While performing Hast Mudra those fingers which are not used to form Mudra must be kept straight. 2. When the tip of the finger is touched to the tip of the thumb, it increases the relative element of the finger. If the tip of the finger is touched at the root of the thumb and pressed slightly by the thumb, the relative element of the finger decreases.
