How to Tie Fishing Knot: Yucatan Knot, Double Line Leader

The Yucatan Knot is stronger than the Albright and the Slim Beauty and is arguably the strongest mono leader to braided line knot. The doubled main line is most often created with a Bimini Twist. Yucatan Knot Tying Instructions 1) Lay leader and doubled line parallel to each other. 2) Wrap doubled line around leader 4 to 6 times if using mono or fluorocarbon, 10 to 15 times if using braid. 3) Now feed end of leader through loop at end of doubled line. 4) Pull doubled line and leader in opposite directions to tighten knot. The Yucatan Knot was first developed in the sport fishing waters off Cancun and Isla Mujeres. There is some confusion as to the tying of this knot with many incorrect depictions on the internet, most often showing a variation of the Albright Special. Note that the wraps are made with doubled line around the single leader line. There is an interesting dynamic here; with the Aussie Quickie Knot, the wraps are made with the leader line and with the Yucatan they are made with the double line. But with both knots, when pulled tight, the coils form in the leader material and the finished knots look identical! The Bristol Knot, also called the No Name Knot, is very similar. All of these make good knots for connecting a double line braided system to a fluorocarbon leader. Practice tying a few of them and pick the one that you like the best.
