OpenWRT flash and basic setup, TP-link alternative using GL.iNet hardware
In today’s video I am going through the process of how to flash my GL.inet router with OpenWRT firmware. This process will be similar to flash compatible TP-Link hardware. I also go through the basic setup of OpenWRT. Check below for more info and resources on the flashing process and other OpenWRT helps. Thanks for your support, please like and subscribe. Basic Flashing instructions: 1. Make a backup of your current router config in case you want to reflash with the manufacturer’s firmware. 2. Visit https://openwrt.org/toh/start and download your hardware’s firmware 3. Disconnect your router from your network and connect directly to your computer via an ethernet cable to the Lan port. 4. Browse to you routers system/upgrade page. 5. Upload the OpenWRT firmware that you downloaded and install. 6. Be patent and let the process complete, approx. 10-15 minutes. 7. Connect to the OpenWRT admin page by browsing to 192.168.1.1 8. Go to the password set page and set a strong complex password. 9. Set basic network settings for Lan and Wan under interfaces. Also enable WiFi and set encryption to WPA3 and use a secure passcode. 10. Make a config backup once basic setup is complete. *Process may differ depending on your hardware and OpenWRT version supported, not responsible for any damage, may invalidate manufacturer’s warranty.
