France - Nuclear Heated Crocodile Farm

(29 Jun 1994) A specially designed, nuclear-heated crocodile farm in Pierrelatte, southern France was opened to the press on Wednesday (29/6), prior to its public opening later in July. The farm, created by crocodile enthusiasts Luc and Eric Fougeirol, provides a luxury home for more than 350 South African crocodiles imported from Italy. Eric described the venture as a challenge and said that he wants to explain to visitors how crocodiles live. The 4000 square metre greenhouse housing the crocs is heated to some 30 degrees by water warmed by the local nuclear power station.
