#Moon #Moonphase #FirstQuarter on a Distance 405 340 Km. with 50% Illuminated Time 2:53 am . Over the horizon #Edmonton #Alberta #Canada #Camera #Nikon #Coolpix #P900 #Weather Clear skies -6°C ( 22°F ) Date March 10 2022 ------------------------------------------ Orange and red light, which have longer wavelengths, tend to pass through the atmosphere, while shorter wavelengths of light, such as blue, get scattered. That's why the Moon look orange or red when they're rising or setting. ------------------------------------------ First quarter: The moon is 90 degrees away from the sun in the sky and is half illuminated from our point of view. We call it first quarter because the moon has traveled about a quarter of the way around Earth since the new moon. --------------------------------------- Waxing gibbous: The area of illumination continues to increase. ----------------------------------------- A week after New Moon, the Moon reaches its First Quarter. In this phase, the Moon is in quadrature (elongation = 90o, position C in the diagram below), and one half of the Moon's disk is illuminated as seen from Earth. The First Quarter Moon rises at noon, transits the meridian at sunset and sets at midnight. ------------------------------------------- The First Quarter Moon is also known as the half-moon. During this phase, exactly one half of the moon appears illuminated, while the other is completely shadowed. The forward growth of the moon signifies a period of strength, focus, determination and commitment to action. ------------------------------------------- High and low tides are caused by the moon. The moon's gravitational pull generates something called the tidal force. The tidal force causes Earth and its water to bulge out on the side closest to the moon and the side farthest from the moon. These bulges of water are high tides. --------------------------- Thank you in advance Have a nice day Stay Safe and healthy Tom
