ETERNAL REFLECTION - Echoes on Mamoru Hosoda's work

Mamoru Hosoda is an animation film director who has gained a lot of prestige from the field of medium-length films to the point of being considered by many as the successor of the Ghibli style rivaling, perhaps, with his neighbor and friend Makoto Shinkai. In 2016, on the occasion of the premiere of his film The Boy and the Beast, Hosoda is interviewed by the Australian distributor Madman Entertainment and asked for his method to find the balance between storytelling and the movie entertaining; I have extracted the initial part of his answer at the beginning of this video essay. At the beginning of all, my starting point was to explore the emotional relationships between the characters of the microcosm originated on this author; but as I was seeing more and more pieces that he directed, the more I filled with the feeling that there was something familiar in those images that, as if a Doppelgänger was, were repeated again and again subtly , without anyone noticing it. That is why I have decided to make a compilation of these moments showing how so equal and, at the same time, how original can come to present these images. I have to recognize, however, that my proposal is strongly influenced by other videotapes such as Star Wars Poetry by Pablo Fernández Eyre focused on self-references between the two trilogies of George Lucas.
