Because we can not follow it perfectly. The gospel is not contrary to the law but upholds it through the obedience of Christ and fulfills it through the spirits renewal of believers. The righteousness of God is exclusively for those who have faith and inclusive of all who have faith, whether Jew or Gentile. Humanity has exchanged God's glory for idolatry and disordered the divine image, and because of this, we are people who are morally and spiritually ugly and depraved. Grace renews and restores humanity's lost glory in believers. Christ was raised for our justification. Justification is final and irreversible. Is faith is the instrument, not the ground or basis of justification. The ground is Christ perfectly obedient, life and propitiating death. Under the mosaic sacrificial system, forgiveness was offered through animal sacrifice. The New Testament recognizes such sacrifices can not substitute for the sins of humans. The work of Christ reveals both the justice of God and the righteousness of God's ways of salvation by faith in Jesus. Thankfully, God provides a way, but the only way for humans to be declared "justified". Salvation is entirely on the basis of faith, and no contribution or requirement of works whatsoever. 1st Nobody can follow the law perfectly, which means no one can be deemed righteous in God's eyes on the basis of the law. 2nd God holds all people to the same moral standard since he gives all people an opportunity to recognize and seek him.
