There were no demos yet where anyone would do this on drums (which I find most interesting being a pro drummer obviously), so it made sense to do it 💣 We ran the signals of bass drum, snare & overheads into both the WA-412 and the API with a rather high input gain so the input transformer would be saturating a little & signals would not come out completely "clean". Then we level matched the output as close as possible for the recording (no further eq/comp/mixing etc).
