Trail runner describes fight to death with MOUNTAIN LION!

Travis Kauffman, 31, has come forward as the Colorado runner who was viciously attacked by a mountain lion as he was jogging on a trail. Kauffman relived the terrifying attack on Thursday during a press conference held by Colorado Parks and Wildlife alongside his girlfriend Annie Bierbower. Kauffman revealed how he heard a rustle behind him and he was filled with dread. 'One of my worst fears was confirmed...I just had my heart sink into my stomach a little bit,' he said. He revealed the lion locked its jaws on his wrist and was clawing his face and arms during the attack on February 4 in the mountains west of Fort Collins. In newly released video Kauffman traces his steps through the trail and reveals how he wrestled the young animal to the ground, pinned down its back legs, then jammed his foot onto its neck to suffocate it to death. The whole fight lasted about 10 grueling minutes. 'I was on a crazy fear high,' he said on the attack. He suffered gashes to his face, arms, neck and scratches to his leg and required about 20 stitches in recovery. A scar was visible along his cheek on Thursday. 'We all feel extremely lucky that this attack was made by a young mountain lion on a knowledgeable runner, otherwise we may have been hosting a very different press conference,' Colorado Parks and Wildlife spokesperson Mark Leslie said.
