St. Matthew | Life and Story

On September 21, the Church celebrates the feast of Saint Matthew, the Apostle and Evangelist. Once a tax collector in Capernaum, Matthew was called by Jesus to follow Him. Leaving everything behind, he became one of the Twelve Apostles and later wrote the Gospel of Matthew, showing how Jesus fulfilled the Old Testament. Tradition tells us he preached the Gospel to distant lands and gave his life as a martyr.
