A Southern Tradition For New Years Day - Black Eyed Peas - Mom Makes This Every January First

Start the new year, with black eyed peas. It's a southern tradition. My mom eats blacked eyed peas on New Years Day, for good luck in the new year. The recipe is very flavorful and full of bacon. Remember bacon makes everything good. So make some black eyed peas this New Years Day. So you too will have good luck in 2025. Enjoy, Michael P.S. Don't forget to hit like and subscribe. Soak 4oz of black eyed peas overnight in water. In medium pot, fry 4 slices of chopped bacon. Once nearly crispy, add in 1/4 chopped onion, 1 chopped garlic clove and sauté until translucent. When the onions are done, pour in the drained peas and 1 1/2 cups water. Add in 1/2 teaspoon salt, 1/4 teaspoon onion powder, 1/4 teaspoon cumin, 1/4 teaspoon pepper, a pinch of red pepper and 1 bay leaf. Bring to a boil and simmer for 1 hour. And in the words of Justin Wilson, "I gar-on-tee."
