'City of Heroes': mayor hails Virginia Beach police

(1 Jun 2019) The mayor of Virginia Beach hailed his city as a "city of heroes" Saturday as he paid tribute to local police officers for taking on the gunman who killed 12 people in America's latest mass shooting. Mayor Bobby Dyer said the bravery of the officers had saved the lives of many others who might otherwise have died as the gunman rampaged through a municipal building during Friday's attack. Police identified the killer as DeWayne Craddock, who was employed for 15 years as an engineer with the city's utilities department. Investigators have identified the two weapons used in the shooting, and said it appeared they had been purchased legally.
