Yellowstone 2: Exploring the Norris Geyser Basin and the Hayden Valley

Norris Geyser Basin is one of the hottest and most dramatic of Yellowstone's hydrothermal areas. Many of the hydrothermal features have temperatures that exceed the boiling point of water. The temperature, one thousand feet below the surface at Norris was found to be around three hundred degrees centigrade, the hottest of any hydrothermal area in Yellowstone. It's hard to imagine a setting more volatile than Norris, it's part of one of the worlds largest volcanoes Exploring this volatile wonderland on the Porcelain and Back Basin trails (three miles round trip) you will find yourself in the heart of one of the most dramatic and beautiful volcanic areas on Earth.
