Voices from Nigeria: Zara's story
Zara*, 15, and her sister were kidnapped by Boko Haram militants in the night. They were taken to a big house where they were tortured and raped repeatedly by numerous men. After her sister died, she managed to escape but when she returned home, discovered that her mother had also passed away. Lost and alone, Zara met a volunteer for Plan International who is working with vulnerable girls affected by violence in Nigeria. Our mobile protection units travel to hard-to-reach communities helping prevent and respond to sexual violence against girls and women. Zara is now back in school and learning the skills she needs to start a trade and earn a living. *Name has been changed to protect identity More on our work here: http://bit.ly/2jvSAbM
