DNS 4.5 Month Sidelying | Shoulder and Neck Stability Exercise | Livonia Chiropractor

The DNS 4.5 Month Sidelying exercise is an excellent position for stabilizing the shoulder, neck, and upper spine. This developmental posture retrains deep stabilizers and reinforces breathing control while teaching proper scapular positioning. In this video, a Livonia chiropractor from Life in Motion Chiropractic demonstrates the correct technique for performing this DNS milestone. This exercise is often used in chiropractic rehab to improve posture, reduce tension in the neck and shoulders, and restore natural stability. How to Perform: 1. Begin in a side-lying position. Keep the bottom leg bent at 90° for support, with your hip and knee resting on the ground. 2. The top leg and arm remain relaxed and extended. 3. Use your opposite hand to scoop the working shoulder down, engaging the scapular stabilizers between your shoulder blade and spine. 4. Retract your chin (like giving yourself a double chin) and look slightly toward your armpit. 5. Keep your spine tall, and your head lengthened. The working arm should be slightly extended, as if preparing to volley a ball. 6. Breathe deeply into your belly while gently pressing your elbow and shoulder into the ground. 7. Hold this activation for 8–10 breaths, maintaining posture and stability.
