During pregnancy, your body goes through many physical changes to accommodate the growth and development of the fetus. During these nine months, this result is also visible on the mother's blood pressure. In this video Dr. Swapna Chekuri is going to explain all about Blood Pressure during Pregnancy, High Blood Pressure in Pregnancy or Gestational Hypertension. Usually, the blood pressure decreases in pregnancy. And this decrease of blood pressure is more in the 2nd trimester i.e. when the three months decrease, then the blood pressure of the mother gradually decreases which is called second trimester fall. Blood pressure is measured in two ways The upper blood pressure which is called Systolic Blood Pressure. Lower blood pressure which is called diastolic blood pressure. This diastolic blood pressure decreases in pregnancy, which means that the blood pressure which normally remains 80, becomes 70 in pregnancy, there is a reason for this. Why is blood pressure low in pregnancy? During pregnancy, the systemic vascular resistance is reduced, because during pregnancy, the blood vessels of the mother's body swell slightly because the smooth muscles that remain in it get relaxed due to pregnancy hormone so that your baby's blood flow is more. That is why low blood pressure in pregnancy is very important for the health of the child. Blood pressure when pregnant That is why it is very important to measure our blood pressure when our pregnancy starts. Sometimes even before pregnancy, a woman's blood pressure remains high even before conceiving and the doctor starts blood pressure medicine, which is called chronic hypertension or essential hypertension, which is not related to pregnancy. In such a situation, you have to talk to your doctor only and talk about your medicines because some blood pressure medicines cannot be given in pregnancy. In the first trimester, the mother has to measure her blood pressure. In about 10-15% of women, blood pressure increases due to pregnancy, which is called Pregnancy Induced Hypertension (PIH) / Gestational Hypertension. It starts after 20 weeks. This blood pressure can prove to be dangerous for both mother and child. Therefore it is very important to have early diagnosis. So that its monitoring can be done well. So know, when is Pregnancy Induced Hypertension called? When systolic blood pressure is above 140 mmHg and diastolic blood pressure is above 90 mmHg then it is called increased blood pressure. But when the blood pressure is very low i.e. Systolic blood pressure remains 100mmHg, then it increases from 30mmHg to 130 mmHg after 20 weeks, then it is called Pregnancy Induced Hypertension / Gestational Hypertension. Signs of high blood pressure during pregnancy This increases the blood pressure due to pregnancy, along with it there is swelling of the body. If there is swelling in the body even after resting for 12 hours, then it can be a symptom of PIH. There is swelling in the feet due to pregnancy, but due to PIH, there is swelling on the feet, hands, face which is a sign of danger. Along with that the weight increases, 500gm weight increases in a week. Then you should go to your doctor. The doctor will advise you for a urine test. In which the amount of protein leakage in 1+ urine shows that it is PIH. For more details watch full video.
