Ned Garthe Interview - Literati Records Podcast Episode 136
Like most branches of pop culture, music has its own set of descriptors and niches, which all too often tend to become overused marketing buzz words. Terms such as "Garage Rock", "Basement Tapes", "Lo-Fi", or even "DIY", have partially become cliche' advertising taglines, losing much of their literal context. But that's not the case with Ned Garthe -- the man or the band. Their music is literally recorded by the band itself, in a basement, and their last album, American Values, was released on cassette tape. According to Stuart, each month, Ned would try and purchase another mic, and figure out how it would fit into their evolving home recording environment. This led to a debut album that bristles with diversity, creativity, and energy, even though it will never be confused with the high fidelity offerings coming out of Sound City or Abbey Road. Combine this "whatever it takes" commitment to sharing their music, with the infectious wit and humor that exudes naturally from Ned Garthe -- the man AND the band - and it becomes hard not to love this unique cast of characters.
