The Cross and the Crown - Oct 8 - Nineteenth Sunday after Pentecost

Psalm 22 starts out famously with the Cry of Dereliction: "My God, my God, why have you forsaken me," the cry of the crucified Son of God at the moment when he stands alone in the abyss of hell for the sake of humanity. But it miraculously ends with a description of all the nations submitting to this same Messiah who at the beginning was forsaken and alone. Throughout Scripture we see this same story told - God is planning to conquer the world through his messiah, but he is going to do it through the suffering of self-sacrificial love.
