Elvis Presley - Proud Mary - The Live Comparison Series Volume Twenty

'Proud Mary' a hit for Creedance Clearwater Revival in 1969, would be first heard on the 'On Stage' album. After February 1970 the song would be be dropped for the next two seasons, apart from a solo outing in Oakland on 10 November 1970, before being reinstated in August 1971, with a new faster arrangement, and the omitted verse included akin to On Tour and MSG. Elvis would perform 'Proud Mary' for the final time at the third show of his August 1974 engagement in Las Vegas at the Midnight Show on 20 August. Version One - 26 January 1970, Las Vegas - The First Live Rendition This version is different even to the 'On Stage' version, recorded three weeks later, it is slowerr in tempo. Listen for the one-liner of Dean Martin's 'Everybody Loves Somebody' before 'Proud Mary'. Version Two - 19 February 1970, Las Vegas Version Three - 10 November 1971, The Boston Garden Now with the missing verse included and the tempo increased. Version Four - 10 June 1972, Evening Show, Madison Square Garden, New York Version Five - 20 August 1974, Dinner Show - The Final Live Rendition 'Proud Mary' was reinstated again after over two years amid a radical set list shake up. This one in particular is probably the most radical and well known, from 19 August 1974 where amongs other things 2001 and See See Rider were dropped with Elvis beginning the show with "Big Boss Man". For whatever reason, and they have been debated within the Elvis fandom for years, Elvis was not satisfied with the new set list and so reverted to type the very next show. One of the songs temporarily retained was "Proud Mary" but was sung just once more before it too became a casualty this 20 August 1974 dinner show rendition As with all of these videos, to get the most out of the re-edited audio, I highly recommend you use ear /headphones and turn the volume up as much as you dare!
