Released originally in late 2007, the game was developed solely by Dean "peppy" Herbert on its original release. However, as the game and community grew, the developers and designers in the backend of osu! grew as well. The game has reached heights that could have never been forseen back at it's initial release, as originally it was supposed to be a fan-made expansion of the Nintendo DS game Osu! Tatakae! Ouendan. Players such as WhiteCat, Badeu, Vaxei, Cookiezi (otherwise known as Shigetora), and Mrekk have pushed the boundaries of what is considered to be humanly possible, achieving upwards of 1,000pp plays!
