Jump Scare City, Population: ME!! WATCHING *SMILE 2* [MOVIE REACTION] First Time Watching! My Takeaway: This film was very, very effective - and an indictment against the entire prestige film industry if NONE of the production comes away with a nomination this Oscar season. Naomi Scott (Aladdin, Power Rangers) did everything that Suleika Shyamalan could not...when I spoke in my "Trap" review about "punching above your weight class," this is what I meant. If you're going to incorporate dance/singing into your acting, than the acting had better be the cake and everything else the icing. Fortunately, Parker Finn found a dynamic, charismatic actress with gravitas to lend to her performance. This film doesn't work without her ability to balance both. There are several long takes/single-shots that are thrilling and well-paced, and a couple transitions that had me on the edge of my seat - from a technical standpoint, this film was well-executed. That being said, this film continues my streak of bleak endings - I hope to break that streak soon with some holiday-themed fare.
