Quicker aorta operation

Quicker aorta operation

Fixing the largest artery in our body can be risky business, and any operation on the aorta is a race against time. However, a Miami, Fla. surgeon is using a new procedure to make it safer and faster for his patients. It's called a frozen elephant trunk. It involves implanting a device that's supported by wire stints to hold the aorta open, replacing softer tubing that needs stitching and cutting operation time down to about 20 minutes.
