Creating healthier futures starts with access to quality care and the professionals dedicated to providing it. Priority Marketing produced this recruitment and awareness video for Healthcare Network to highlight its Pediatric Dental Residency Program, a unique training opportunity in Southwest Florida. The video production team captured videos with Healthcare Network leadership, faculty and dental residents, as well as a patient family testimonial illustrating the program's real-world impact. Jamie: Our pediatric dental residency program is the only residency program in a federally qualified health center in Florida, and one of just a few throughout the country. Access to pediatric dental care is one of the biggest gaps in our region. Far too many children in our community face delays or barriers in getting timely, safe, and effective dental treatment. By launching our own residency program, we created a pipeline of highly trained dentists who specialize in treating young patients, especially those with complex needs. Michael: By graduation, they’ll not only be skilled clinicians, but they’ll also be leaders, ready and willing to give back to their community. Ashley: The facility is beautiful. It is definitely brand new, wide open, and friendly. As for the faculty and the staff, the training is great. It’s very personable, one-on-one. Dr. Wright: I would say the faculty and the mentorship culture here are very collaborative. There’s so many different faculty, with so many different backgrounds. We have some with more private-practice experience, and others, like Dr. Keck, who has a background in advocacy. We have Dr. Cade, who has a background in education. We get so many different viewpoints, which will make us better dentists. Lyndsey: You have more of a collaborative experience, where you can talk with the pharmacist, the child’s pediatrician, or if they’re in behavior therapy right next door. It really gives you a sense of community and collaborative treatment. We work with behavioral health to help manage patients in the chair. We’ve rotated with pediatric medicine, so we see their side of treating patients, like the medications that they’re on and why they give them those medications. Then we can consider whether those medications affect what we’re doing and whether their condition needs further management in the chair from us. Dr. Wright: I love the community aspect of this residency program. That’s another thing that stood out to me, because community is so important. Being connected with your patients and understanding their circumstances, that’s what also drew me to this program. There’s so much community outreach offered to us, for us to get comfortable, and for the community to get to know us, just as we get to know them. It’s a unique experience that I don’t think a lot of other residency programs can say. Emily: I’m just so thankful for all the services rendered here, all the locations we have, because he actually has a pediatrician at Healthcare Network, and now he has a new dentist at Healthcare Network. But from the very beginning, they were literally holding my hand and just guiding me through, and I was very shocked because I hadn’t received that, or I never did. So, I almost felt like a VIP. Jamie: Our residency program will increase capacity to serve more pediatric dental patients. It will ensure that specialty care is available locally, even to our families who rely on Medicaid or sliding-fee programs. It strengthens our ability to offer comprehensive, coordinated care, especially for vulnerable populations. Ultimately, it allows us to create healthier futures for children in the communities we serve. Lyndsey: If you’re one of those people like me, and you appreciate learning in the moment, hands-on, and having someone explain things to you as you’re doing them, it is a great place to be.
