Air Asia usually flies out of Terminal 4 for domestic departures but has been transferred to Terminal 3 during the pandemic. Terminal 3 is the newest and largest terminal at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport complex opened in July 2008, the airport serves the Manila metropolitan area. Terminal 3 is built on a63.5-hectare lot that sits on Villamor Air Base. However, in practice, both NAIA and Clark International Airport, located in the Clark Freeport Zone in Pampanga serve the Manila area, with Clarkcatering mostly to low-cost carriers that avail themselves of the lower landing fees than those charged at NAIA. In the long term Clark is set to replace NAIA as the primary airport of the Philippines. In2009 the airport saw growth of 11.4% to 24.1 million passengers. In2010, NAIA carried 27.1 million passengers, making it to the top 50 ofthe world's busiest airports by passenger traffic. In 2011, all terminals at NAIA handled a record breaking annual passenger traffic of 29,552,264 making it as one of the busiest airports in Asia and in2012, NAIA also became the 34th busiest airport in the world,passenger volume increased to about 8% to a total of 32.1 million passengers.
