Drivers by border check point STORYLINE: On October 7th 2014 fighting continued between Ukrainian forces and pro-Russian separatists near the eastern city of Donetsk's airport, despite a cease-fire declared one month ago. The separatists claimed that Ukrainian forces had retreated from the airport, although heavy fighting for positions at the main terminal were still ongoing. As the fighting continues, many houses in the area have been damaged in the crossfire. "Shells. One hit the neighbour's house, a second hit the garage, and a third one fell inside our house," said resident Alexander as firefighters fought to save his home. Visibly angry, he vowed to hit back at the Ukrainian forces he believes were responsible. "I will cut down those bastards with my knife one by one. They are monsters," he said. The fighting focusing on the airport of the rebel-held city shows the difficulties of enforcing a truce that has held in most other areas of eastern Ukraine since it was declared on September 5th. Ukraine's prime minister said on October 7th that two drones have been delivered to the country so international observers can monitor the shaky cease-fire in the area. Arseniy Yatsenyuk said Russia is doing nothing to mitigate the hostilities. He accused Moscow of stationing troops in Ukraine - a claim Russia has denied. *** On October 8th at least two people were killed and nine injured from shelling in the eastern Ukrainian city of Donetsk during the evening.
