Our Channel called God's Promises will focus will be on all the bible verses past & present! We are devoted to bringing you daily inspirational messages. Psalm 87 is a short but powerful psalm that speaks of the glory of Zion, the city of God. It is a song of praise for the special relationship between God and His chosen people, and the unique role of Jerusalem in the world. In this psalm, the poet emphasizes the importance of this holy city, its spiritual and historical significance, and the joy it brings to all believers. The psalm begins with a declaration of God's love for Zion: "His foundation is in the holy mountains. The LORD loves the gates of Zion more than all the dwellings of Jacob" (Psalm 87:1-2). The "holy mountains" refer to the surrounding hills where Jerusalem is built, and "the gates of Zion" signify the entrance to the city. This verse emphasizes God's special relationship with Jerusalem, which is more beloved to Him than any other place on earth. The poet then speaks of the joy that Jerusalem brings to its citizens, both those born within its walls and those who have come from afar to worship there: "Glorious things are spoken of you, O city of God! I will make mention of Rahab and Babylon to those who know Me; Behold, O Philistia and Tyre, with Ethiopia: 'This one was born there.'" (Psalm 87:3-4). Rahab and Babylon represent foreign cities, while Philistia, Tyre, and Ethiopia represent more distant lands. The poet is saying that the fame of Jerusalem has spread to all corners of the earth, and that people from all nations are drawn to it because of its spiritual significance. The psalm continues with a reference to the citizenship of Jerusalem, emphasizing the importance of being a part of this holy city: "And of Zion it will be said, 'This one and that one were born in her; And the Most High Himself shall establish her'" (Psalm 87:5). The poet is saying that being born in Jerusalem is a privilege, as it means being a part of God's chosen people and the spiritual heritage of Israel. Finally, the psalm ends with a declaration of the joy that Jerusalem brings to all its inhabitants, and a recognition of the blessings of being a part of this city: "The LORD will record, when He registers the peoples: 'This one was born there.' Both the singers and the players on instruments say, 'All my springs are in you'" (Psalm 87:6-7). This verse emphasizes that being a part of Jerusalem means being part of a community of believers, a shared spiritual identity that brings joy and fulfillment. The application of Psalm 87 for believers today is that it reminds us of the spiritual significance of Jerusalem and its role in God's plan of salvation. It teaches us to appreciate the unique relationship between God and His chosen people, and the blessings that come from being a part of His spiritual family. It also reminds us of the joy that comes from being part of a community of believers, united by our faith in God and our commitment to His kingdom. Ultimately, Psalm 87 points us to the hope and joy that comes from being a part of God's eternal city, where we will dwell with Him forever. Thank you and enjoy...
