With a budget of £36,000 and a very specific brief, we hit the road to find the perfect base for a bespoke camper conversion. But with so much choice out there — big vans, small vans, expensive vans and cheap vans — where do you even start? In this video we visit multiple dealers, inspect some questionable stock, stumble across a £100,000 fully converted camper for comparison, and eventually find the one. A 2023 VW Crafter long wheelbase with automatic gearbox, climate control, Apple CarPlay and parking sensors — all for under budget. It's not perfect. But with big plans for a full bespoke BBQ camper conversion, it needed to be the right van to start with.
