Jesus Said - Matthew 10:10
Hi, today I share some thoughts on a statement Jesus made in his instructions to his twelve disciples as he sent them out on a mission to preach the gospel of the Kingdom, heal the sick and to cast out or expel demons while expecting no payment or taking any resources along. In Matthew 10:10 Jesus said, “…for laborers deserve their food”. Wow! God takes care of those who agree with him in his work on earth. God is fully aware of our material or physical needs in life. As his children and workers or laborers he invites us to completely depend on him for the provision of such material needs. God has his own ways of providing for our needs in our life of obedience to him and he works with and through people in doing that. God’s principle of seed or sowing time and harvest time, I believe, is behind Jesus’ comment that a laborer deserves or has a right to their food or due. The Lord Jesus lived with this principle of total dependence on God’s provision in his obedience to the will of God. God rewards work. Jesus assured his disciples that God will take care of them as they go about God’s work. It is faith to live in this understanding that God takes care of the one living in obedience to do God’s work of bringing salvation, healing and deliverance to ourselves and others. God’s call does not lead to poverty or impoverishment and it is not to selfish wealth ambitions that impoverish others in the process. It is a call to share in the abundance of God in Jesus Christ. Later as recorded in Luke 22:35, Jesus asked his disciples “When I sent you without purse, bag or sandals, did you lack anything?” Of course, their response was “nothing”. Jesus says focus on God and not material gain as you respond to his call to do his will in living for, and preaching, the gospel of God’s kingdom, healing the sick and casting out demons by the authority of Jesus and in the power of the Holy Spirit. Thank you, Lord Jesus for this truth in life. Once again remember, once Jesus has said it, choose to believe it and act on it and that matter will be settled in your life, sooner or later to the glory of God in Christ Jesus. Catch you later.
