The growth slowdown in Emerging Asia is significant and recovery will face challenges through 2021, the OECD Development Centre reports in its latest Economic Outlook for Southeast Asia, China and India 2021: Reallocating resources for digitalisation released today. Real GDP in Emerging Asian countries – ASEAN-10, China and India – is projected to decline by 1.7% on average in 2020 before rebounding by 7.4% in 2021, from a low base. In ASEAN, average real GDP is projected to contract by 3.4% in 2020, and grow by 5.1% in 2021, according to the report. The economic fallout in 2020 is especially pronounced in India (-9.9%) and the Philippines (-9.0%). At the other extreme, Viet Nam will post the strongest output growth rate in the region in 2020, forecast at 2.6%. Photos: Shutterstock / Unsplash
