Our Lady of Africa Mbuya Parish Catholic Mass Today - Memorial of Our Lady of Sorrows - Reading I: 1 Timothy 2:1-8- Responsorial Psalm: Psalm 28:2, 7, 8-9 - Gospel:John 19:25-27 ( or Luke 2:33-35) - The Memorial of Our Lady of Sorrows is celebrated on September 15, honoring the seven sorrows in the Heart of Mary as recorded in Scripture. These sorrows include ¹: The Prophecy of Simeon: When Simeon foretold that a sword would pierce Mary's heart (Luke 2:33-35) The Flight into Egypt: Mary's anguish during the journey to Egypt with Joseph and Jesus (Matthew 2:13-15) Loss of the Child Jesus: Mary and Joseph's distress when Jesus went missing for three days (Luke 2:41-50) Mary Meets Jesus on His Way to Calvary: Mary's heartbreak as she encountered Jesus carrying the cross (Luke 23:27-31; John 19:17) Crucifixion and Death of Jesus: Mary's sorrow as she stood near Jesus during his crucifixion and death (John 19:25-30) Jesus is Taken Down from the Cross: Mary's compassion as Jesus' body was removed from the cross Jesus is Laid in the Tomb: Mary's grief as Jesus was buried This memorial invites reflection on Mary's faith, perseverance, and trust in God amidst suffering. Pope Francis noted that Mary's presence beneath the cross exemplifies true compassion.
