First-St. Andrew's United Church Worship Service - May 12, 2024

Welcome to worship at First-St. Andrew's United Church in London, Ontario! We are pleased to present this live-stream worship service on Sunday, May 12, 2024. The service will begin at 10:30am. It is the Seventh Sunday of Easter and today we celebrate "Christian Family Sunday" to honour the gifts of those who nurture us. Rev. Dr. Joshua Lawrence is away this week celebrating with his own family. In his absence, we are blessed to have Rev. Karen Low, Voluntary Associate Minister, to lead today's service. Our Scripture readings are 1 Peter 3: 13-22, read by Anne Cunningham and Luke 14: 1, 7-14. Today's sermon is called "Theology on a Plate." Minister of Music, Chris Fischer returns this week fresh from attending the United Church "Music Matters" conference in Thunder Bay. They have brought back lots of fresh new music and will share some of it with us this morning. New hymn, "We Are One Living Family" by Andrew Donaldson, is set to the tune of PASSION CHORALE and was written this year. Our Musical Reflection is a familiar tune with a new text "Impartial, Compassionate God of All Lives" by Rev. Adrienne Stricker. We are grateful to the author for her generous permission to use this hymn in our worship today! Other congregational hymns include: VU #753 Safe in Your Hands, O God, Who Made Me, VU #578 As a Fire Is Meant for Burning, and VU #556 Would You Bless Our Homes and Families. Today's Musical Offering is Stephen Hatfield's arrangement of Zulu folk song "Jabula Jesu" which features Lynda & Bob Kennedy on drums.
